Taxpayers have already spoken

Taxpayers in the Scotts Valley Fire Protection District have voted “no” to a new fire station across from the Hilton Hotel three times in a row. The most recent measure failed by a whopping 14 percent.
Now, district officials say they will apply for federal stimulus money that is available for “shovel-ready” projects.
The criteria for available federal stimulus funds are not just that the project is shovel-ready. The project must also be necessary.
District taxpayers have reviewed the request for a new fire station carefully, and they have spoken loud and clear. A new fire station is not necessary. 
Fire district officials are deaf to the wishes of the district taxpayers. Please take an interest in your fire district and let its leaders know that when taxpayers say no, they mean no, whether funds come from federal or local sources.
