No state track qualifiers
Despite strong performances from the four athletes who qualified for the May 28 Central Coast Section track and field finals, no local participants will go on to the state meet this year.
Allan Hetke finished 11th in the 3,200-meter run in 9 minutes, 52.52 seconds, and Amanda Lackides took fourth in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet, 6 inches for San Lorenzo Valley High.
For Scotts Valley High, Lauren Germany placed sixth in the girls 1,600-meter run, finishing in 5:16.86 while besting her time from the semifinals by more than 2 seconds.
Falcon Kyle McNulty ran 1:58.15 in the 800 to take sixth in the final.
Woman sinks hole-in-one
Carol Dudley of Scotts Valley sank a hole-in-one at Valley Gardens Golf Course in Scotts Valley on May 28.
The 77-year-old sank the ace using a 7-wood from 113 yards out on the ninth and final hole of the course.
Steelheads are the champs
The Steelheads defeated the Mt. Mechanics, 24-16, in the Co-ed Recreational Division of the IOOF/SLV Softball league to claim the spring championship May 23. Going into the playoffs, the Mt. Mechanics were 7-1 and the Steelheads were 6-2.
In the Co-ed Recreational B Division, Mt. Hermon defeated the Coyotes, 10-6, for the championship win. Mt. Hermon led the league with a 7-1 record in the regular season and took the title from the Coyotes, who were 6-2.
