Many of the top little leaguers in District 39 will make the trip to San Lorenzo Valley Little League field for the first time as the league hosts its first all-star tournament. The little league will host the Minors all-star tournament beginning Saturday, June 26, and it will through July 8.
For SLV Little League, it will be the first time in memory that the league has hosted an all-star tournament.
“We’ve been invited (to other fields) for years, and now it’s our turn to reciprocate,” said league president Christina Wise.
Other little leagues, such as those in Scotts Valley, Pajaro Valley, Santa Cruz and Aptos, have hosted the tournaments in the past. But the SLV league’s board of directors had the volunteers and the willpower to host it this year.
Wise was the driving force behind asking for the tournament, and she’s getting help from Joe Primeau, tournament director, and Randy Gordon, who volunteered as an announcer.
To prepare for the tournament, the league has painted the snack shack, installed a new public address system, re-wired the announcers’ booth and removed the mound to make the site as inviting as possible.
Games are in the evenings, and a complete schedule can be found at www.district39little

“We really encourage people to come out and enjoy the field and hospitality and support the kids in the league,” Wise said.
