Former Boulder Creek resident Mia Michele McCarter died in her sleep Tuesday, June 22, while visiting with her children and grandson in Brookdale. She was 56.
Ms. McCarter was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and spent much of her life in California as a registered nurse. She moved to Boulder Creek in 1989 and joined the Boulder Creek Community Church in the late 1990s. In 2003, she moved back what she called her “beloved islands” of Hawaii and became a member of New Hope Volcano Church.
Ms. McCarter was a creative artist of many media, and family members said her love of art was surpassed only by her love of family and friends.
She is survived by son Kim K. Veeck of Fresno, daughter Kristin L. Veeck of Brookdale, mother Lydia McCarter of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, former husband Kristopher W. Veeck of Fresno, and a grandson.
A celebration of Ms. McCarter’s life will be open to the public at 7 p.m. June 30 at Boulder Creek Community Church, 12465 Highway 9, in Boulder Creek. For questions about the service: 338-3700.
