Scotts Valley Bocce title awarded
Monday-and-Wednesday-night champions Al’s Pals defeated the Tuesday-and-Thursday champions Apple Valley for the spring bocce championship July 7 at the Skypark Bocce Courts.
The thriving league competes weekday evenings at Skypark in Scotts Valley.
Sandman tri on tap
The 25th annual Sandman triathlon will be Aug. 1 at Seacliff State Beach in Aptos. Proceeds benefit Santa Cruz Junior Lifeguard scholarships. Registration remains open.

Two locals join Boise lacrosse
Boise State University in Idaho announced its lacrosse roster this month, and two local players are on the team.
San Lorenzo Valley’s Robert Szakacs will play defense for the Broncos, and Scotts Valley High’s Cody Huckvale will play midi. Both are 2010 graduates.
IOOF Softball pushes on
The summer season of the IOOF San Lorenzo Valley softball league is well under way, with games at Highlands Park, 8500 Highway 9, on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Lumberjack winners announced
Winners in the annual Lumberjack Days competition over the Fourth of July weekend have been announced by festival host Boulder Creek Hardware.
Ron Easley won the Axe Throw and Specialty Axe throw, Bill Mehlenbacher won the Low CC Stock Saw competition, Giovanni Dalpoggetto won the High CC Stock Saw competition, Joe Sunderland won the Hot Saw competition, Ben Beasley won the Lumberjack competition and Adam Rohrbough won the Vintage Saw competition.
Abby Rohrbough, Tonya Godwin and Jessica Forbes earned honorable mentions as Lumberjills.
