EDITOR,
Lots of things to debate about Denese Matthes’ letter (“Boulder Creek Rec must get serious,” July 30). I’ll stick to one. Denese talks of vile things that have happened at Junction Park in Boulder Creek. If all she says is true, it’s despicable.
She says the district should reestablish the daily teen recreation programs again. I laughed when I read that. Does she think these kids are going to go to the rec hall to shoot a few hoops and drink a few sodas? It’ll never happen. Even the kids who don’t hang with these groups aren’t interested in a teen program; they have more interesting things to do. That was then, this is now.
I see these troublemakers on their way to the park daily. Most are underage, several as young as possibly 12, carrying booze (some of them not even bothering to disguise it by putting it in a bag). Several hours later, they come back drunk, looking for a fight. We’ve had several of these fights recently in front of our houses as a result.
The deputies do a good job of patrolling, much more frequently than in the past. We just have to call them to come out and remove the “trash.” They can’t help if they don’t get calls from the public. I also understand that private security has been hired again.
The park is beautiful. I want to see it safe and enjoyed by people who want to enjoy and respect it.
