Virginia May Walsh died July 26 at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz after a lengthy illness. She was 80 years old.
Mrs. Walsh was born in Gilroy, was raised in San Martin and Morgan Hill and graduated from Live Oak High School as a member of the Class of 1950. She began a career as a vocational nurse and worked at various hospitals and nursing homes, including Wheeler Hospital in Gilroy and Stanford Children’s Hospital.
She lived 47 years in Boulder Creek with her husband and attended St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
Mrs. Walsh is survived by her husband of 51 years, Leonard Walsh of Boulder Creek; four children, Sheila Walsh, Patty Walsh, Carolyn Walsh and Tim Walsh, all of Boulder Creek; and three siblings, Ruth Johnson, Marion Houser and James Alter, all of Morgan Hill.
She is also survived by two grandsons and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Alter of Morgan Hill, and a sister, Grace Sturla of Merced.
A recitation of the rosary and a Catholic blessing service took place Aug. 1 and 2 at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel in Santa Cruz, and a funeral ceremony and committal were conducted Aug. 2 at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery.
