EDITOR,
Smart Meters are an assault on our rights to privacy, security, and health and safety. Contrary to the “green” propaganda, this program is predicted to increase our carbon footprint. And let’s not forget the economic implications of the program. At a time when people in our community are losing their jobs, even their homes, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. has $6 billion in rate increases pending at the California Public Utilities Commission.
Although both the City of Scotts Valley and the County of Santa Cruz have petitioned the CPUC for a moratorium on the installation of smart meters, PG&E continues installation throughout the county today. While we currently can’t opt out of the program, we can resist. Here’s how:
Call the PG&E Smart Meter Line at 866-743-0263 and tell them you do not want a smart meter. They’ll say you can’t opt out but that they’ll put you at the end of the installation schedule.
Go to http://stopsmartmeters.wordpress.com and download and print a “Do Not Install” sign, as well as a “Smart-Meter-Free Zone” sign. Place the “Do Not Install” sign on both your gas and electric meter, or go ahead and make your own sign. PG&E has publicly stated that it will not shut off power to those boycotting.
Inform and include your neighbors. Print signs for them, pass on the phone number, declare your neighborhood a “Smart-Meter-Free Zone.” There is great power in numbers, and much can be accomplished when we work together.
