Scotts Valley Host Lions
The Scotts Valley Host Lions Club will host its 11th annual Charity Golf Tournament on Oct. 1 at the Boulder Creek Golf & Country Club.
Tee-off is at 1:30 p.m., followed by a barbecue and raffle. Proceeds will benefit Youth & Community/Sight & Hearing Foundations.

The club meets at the Scotts Valley Senior Center, 370 Kings Village Road, at 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month and at 7 a.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month.
Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley
Kiwanis hosted the second of its 2010 Music in the Park concerts July 25, featuring The Housebreakers. The third free concert, starting at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, will be popular Santa Cruz County band Extra-Large.
BCI Builders will provide a barbecue, Santa Cruz Pizza Co. will sell pizza by the slice, Baskin-Robbins will supply ice cream and Roudon-Smith Winery will pour wine. Beer and soda will also be available. All will raise money for local charities and schools.
The club meets at 7 a.m. Wednesdays ($5 for breakfast) at Heavenly Café, 1270 Mount Hermon Road, except the second Wednesday of each month, which is a 6 p.m. meeting, with a $20 dinner, at the Hilton Santa Cruz-Scotts Valley, 6001 La Madrona Drive.

Scotts Valley Rotary Club
The club’s fifth annual Oktoberfest will again feature world-famous band “The Internationals,” with authentic Oktoberfest dancers.
The party will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Scotts Valley Community Center, 360 Kings Village Road. Regular admission is $10, and veterans and those younger than 21 can attend free of charge. Traditional Bavarian food and beer will be sold. Tickets are available online at www.Scottsvalleyrotary.org.
Fifteen Rotarians volunteered to pour beer at the Scotts Valley Art and Wine Festival.
The club also gathered 500 pairs of new shoes, 1,000 pieces of new clothing and many suitcases for Santa Cruz County Foster Care. These items were donated to outfit children going back to school, many of whom had never owned a new pair of shoes.

Scotts Valley Exchange Club
The Scotts Valley Exchange Club has changed its weekly lunch meeting to a monthly evening meeting. The club will meet at 5:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month in the Scotts Valley Senior Center, 370 Kings Village Road. Every meeting will include wine, appetizers and headline speakers. Guests are welcome.
The Exchange Club’s annual golf tournament will be Sept. 10 at Valley Gardens Golf Course. There is still room for foursomes. Cost is $45 per player and includes a continental breakfast and a pulled-pork lunch. The tournament helps sponsor the annual Blue and Gold Banquet honoring the police officer and firefighter of the year.

SLV Rotary Club
On Aug. 19, the club welcomed 10 new teachers and two principals to the San Lorenzo Valley School District with a potluck breakfast.
The speaker schedule for September is as follows: Sept. 1, club assembly; Sept. 8, Roger Hassler, district governor; Sept. 14, Santa Cruz County Fair and barbecue lunch; Sept. 15, no meeting; Sept. 22, Peter Anderson with The Condor Project; Sept. 29, Don Fox, of Cupertino Rotary Club, on the Costa Rican water project and Faces of Hope.
The club meets at 7:15 a.m. Wednesdays in the Birch Dining Room on Conference Drive in the Mount Hermon Conference Center. Cost is $10.
Santa Cruz Moose Lodge 545
The lodge received the mayor’s proclamation from Scotts Valley Mayor Jim Reed on Aug. 18. The proclamation acknowledged the lodge for its significant contributions to the community and people of Scotts Valley. The proclamation also recognized the lodge for rebuilding the community service clubs’ welcome sign on Mount Hermon Road.
The lodge will sponsor a Scotts Valley Soccer League team for the 2010 season.
Coming up, the Lodge Ritual Team members will prepare an all-you-can-eat pasta dinner Friday, Aug. 27, to benefit the Karimu Foundation.
Lodge members have participated in Adopt-A-Highway, Meals on Wheels and Valley Churches United Missions.
