EDITOR,
Unfortunately, budget deficits are all too common in our current economic climate. This happens in both the public and private sector. According to the article, the reduction in state funds to the district will be $950,000. That represents a 5.8 percent reduction in the $16.4 million district budget, as stated in the article. How about a 5 percent pay cut for all employees of the district: clerical staff, teachers, administrators, everyone? Instead of cuts in counselors, custodians, clerical staff and important school programs, everyone takes a cut proportionate to what they make.
Many of us, me included, have taken pay cuts, which, although difficult, saved jobs. With the district, it would save valuable programs, as well as jobs. When the economy improves, hopefully there will be increased funding for schools and the people and programs that make our district successful will still be in place.
