SV High grad starts at Oxford
Kelly Quinn, a 2006 Scotts Valley High graduate, left for England last week to begin her graduate
work at Oxford University. Quinn was an International Baccalaureate Diploma student at Scotts Valley High and graduated summa cum laude from University of California, Los Angeles, in June. Her master’s degree program is in renaissance literature.
SLVHS grad completes combat training
U.S. Army Spec. Sean Main has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.
During nine weeks of training, Main studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values and physical fitness. He also received instruction in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, the military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field exercises.
Main is the son of Darlene D’Ambrosio of Felton and grandson of Manuel Main of Castro Valley. He is a 2001 graduate of San Lorenzo Valley High School and received a bachelor’s degree in 2008 from San Francisco State University.
Railroad owner nominated for award
Santa Cruz County Supervisor Mark Stone has nominated Georgiana Clark, the chief executive officer of Roaring Camp Railroad in Felton, for the League of Railway Industry Women’s 2010 Outstanding Woman of the Year Award.
Clark has operated the railroad since her husband Norman Clark passed away in 1985.
Stone nominated her for her participation in charitable and nonprofit activities.
