Local eighth-graders win titles
The San Lorenzo Valley Middle School eighth-grade cross country team won the regional Central Coast Athletic League meet Oct. 20 at San Lorenzo Valley High School.
Of 213 runners from 12 schools, Brian Robbins finished first, Eli Young second, Ari Solomon fifth, Jared Trader sixth, Thomas Dirck eighth, Billy English 15th and Connor Lydon 19th.
The team went undefeated in the six meets it participated in this season.
The Scotts Valley girls eighth-grade team also won the league title, with Hayley Herberg second, Alethea Ball third, Jessica Germany fourth, Taylor Raymond fifth and Jessica Lloyd sixth.
SLV girls softball registration opens
Registration for softball for kindergarten through age 14 will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 10 at Boulder Creek Elementary School, 400 W. Lomond St., and from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 13 at Ben Lomond Fire Department, 9430 Highway 9.

Cross country championship on tap
Both the Scotts Valley and San Lorenzo Valley high school boys and girls cross country teams are in the running for the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League cross country championship, which will be decided Thursday, Nov. 4, at Pinto Lake in Watsonville.
The Falcon boys are 6-0 in league and the girls are 5-1 heading into the finals. The boys are led by Sean Kennedy and Tyler and Scott Edwards. The girls team is led by Vanessa Fraser, Krista McNulty and Abby Utic.
The San Lorenzo Valley teams recently ran at the largest meet in the United States, the Mount Sac Invitational, where freshman Anna Maxwell finished third overall in 17 minutes, 41 seconds. Abby Sherman and Claire MacMillan followed. The boys were led by Landis MacMillan in 16:10, followed by Cody Johnson and Nick Hicks.
Athlete workouts available
Winter functional movement and training workouts for high school athletes are available Monday and Wednesday evenings at San Lorenzo Valley High School. A fee is charged per session.

Falcons look forward to homecoming
Scotts Valley High School invites the public to celebrate the school’s homecoming football games and activities Friday, Nov. 5. A carnival featuring an inflatable obstacle course and games run by student clubs runs from 3 p.m. until the start of the varsity football game. At halftime of the varsity game, class floats and the homecoming court will travel around the track, with the king and queen crowned on the field.
The football games against St. Francis High will begin at 3 p.m. for freshmen, JV at 5 p.m. and varsity at 7 p.m.

SLV Little League sign-ups begin
In-person registration for San Lorenzo Valley Little League starts Nov. 7 at the San Lorenzo Valley Little League field, from noon to 3 p.m. Registration will continue from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 8 at San Lorenzo Valley High School, Room I-103, 7105 Highway 9, in Felton; from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 9 at Boulder Creek Elementary School, 400 W. Lomond St.; and from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 1 at the SLV High faculty lounge.
Players should take a birth certificate and medical information, and volunteers should take a drivers’ license.
