Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley
The club provided the stage and shade tents for the Scotts Valley High School graduation ceremony. Cash prizes and certificates were awarded to the most improved students at Scotts Valley Middle School. Kiwanis provided volunteer labor for the Pacific Collegiate School graduation ceremony in Santa Cruz. The Highway 17 cleanup was June 13. The club provided notebooks and folders to schools in San Lorenzo Valley.
The club meets 7 a.m. Wednesdays at Heavenly Café, 1270 Mt. Hermon Road. The cost is $5, except the second Wednesday, which is a 6 p.m. meeting at the Scotts Valley Hilton with a cost of $20.
Rotary Club of Scotts Valley
In June, the club presented funding to Cub Scout Pack 608 in support of its ongoing project Operation S.C.O.U.T., in which Scouts send care packages to military men and women serving in Afganistan and Iraq. The club also gave money to Lift Line, a nonprofit organization that provides transportation to veterans.
In July, club members plan to walk in Scotts Valley’s Fourth of July parade to raise money to fight polio. Members will also serve watermelon throughout the day.
The club will have a “Debunking” meeting Monday, June 29, to honor outgoing president Mike McMurry. Incoming president Rob Slawinski will lead his first Rotary meeting July 6.
On July 27, the club will host featured speaker John Gallagher for a talk about the National Kidney Foundation.
The club meets from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Mondays at the Scotts Valley Hilton. Lunch is at 12:15 p.m. and costs $16.
Scotts Valley Host Lions Club
Donations were made to the Survivors Healing Center, Meals on Wheels, Valley Churches United Missions, Mariposa Arts after-school programs, Wilderness Camp and the Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired. The Lions also supported donations for school backpacks and a bike for an orthopedically challenged youngster.
The club meets at the Scotts Valley Senior Center at 7 a.m. Tuesdays, with the exception of the second Tuesday of each month, when the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.
Meetings are open to guests and clubs welcome new members.
