Scotts Valley-based VirnetX Holding Corp. has filed a patent infringement complaint against six related computer communications companies.
The lawsuit, filed Jan. 12 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Tyler Division, includes allegations related to two patents owned by VirnetX, patents 6,502,135 and 7,418,504. Both have to do with creating secure connections for Internet communications.
VirnetX, an Internet security and software company that owns nearly 50 U.S. and international patents, seeks damages in the suit, along with a court order requiring the other companies to stop using the disputed products.
The defendants in the suit are Siemens AG; Siemens Corp.; Siemens Communications Inc.; Siemens Enterprise Communications Inc.; Mitel Networks Corp.; and Mitel Networks Inc. Siemens and Mitel are computer communications companies with businesses around the world.
This is the second major suit filed by VirnetX in recent years.
In May, the company settled with computer giant Microsoft Corp. for $200 million after the company sued for two similar patent infringements. The lawsuit against Siemens and Mitel has been filed in the same court.
