Scotts Valley boys soccer in first
The Scotts Valley High boys soccer team improved to 3-0-1 in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play with a 1-1 tie with Harbor High on Jan. 21.
Scotts Valley leads the league, just ahead of Santa Cruz and Soquel, who are both 3-1.
The Falcons have been led by strong play from Nick Martin, Charlie Stock, Scott Edwards and keeper Brenny Hillen.
After a match against Soquel after press time, they will host St. Francis at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28.
Scotts Valley girls escape
The Scotts Valley High girls basketball team remained undefeated in league by sneaking past visiting Soquel, 46-45, on Tuesday, Jan. 25. Down 33-24 to start the fourth quarter, senior Liz Munger scored 10 points before fouling out. A replacement, Autumn Guidice-Murphy, sank the game-winning layup with several seconds left to complete the comeback.
Scotts Valley is 7-0 in league, two games ahead of Santa Cruz and Soquel.
SLV girls net first win
The San Lorenzo Valley girls soccer team defeated St. Francis High for its first SCCAL win of the season Tuesday. Lacey Monack and Ellen McIntosh each had a goal and an assist for the Cougars, who are 1-5 in league.
They will play Scotts Valley High at home at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 1 in a battle of valley rivals.
