Editor’s Notebook: Getting hitched: His story

Sitting on my desk is a letter to the editor. I bet you’re all dying to hear what it says.
OK. Here’s how it begins:
“Dear Editor, I am slightly offended you did not announce my engagement in your paper. This is mainly due to the fact that you are the groom.”
Oops.
The letter goes on to give me a suggestion: that I write a column sharing my experiences in the wedding planning process from the man’s perspective. She suggests that people would eat it up.
The letter ends like this:
“I will love you regardless of your decision. —Heather Wick (your fiancée).”
Whew! I was worried there for a moment.

John and Barbara Burke of Santa Cruz are proud to announce the engagement of their son Peter Burke, editor of the Press-Banner, to Heather Wick, a second-grade teacher at Baymonte Christian School. Burke graduated from Harbor High School in 2003 and Whitworth University in 2007. Wick is a Class of 2001 Soquel High School graduate and earned a master’s degree in teaching from Bethany University in 2007. A May 2011 wedding is planned.
