Cougar boys fall to Harbor
The San Lorenzo Valley high boys basketball team lost to Harbor High, 47-40, on Monday, Feb. 7. Nick Gorman led the scoring for the Cougars with 15 points, and Jared Johnson had 12. Harbor High’s Collin Gruber led the Pirates with a double-double, scoring 23 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
San Lorenzo Valley is 3-8 in league play and will face St. Francis of Watsonville at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb 11.
Morris a runner-up for coach of year
San Lorenzo Valley High varsity football coach Doug Morris recently finished as a runner-up for the title of the high school Coach of the Year for the NFL. Morris was nominated for the honor by Buffalo Bills lineman Andy Levitre, a former SLV and Oregon State standout. Morris was one of five finalists in the selection process and will receive $2,500 in cash and $5,000 toward strengthening the SLV football program.
Scotts Valley girls soccer ties Santa Cruz
The Scotts Valley High girls soccer team remained in first place in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League with a 0-0 tie against Santa Cruz High at Depot Park on Feb. 3. Emily Johnson defended the net in her 11th shutout on the season. The Falcons are 7-1-1 in league play.
Falcon boys lose to Cardinals
The Scotts Valley boys basketball team finished league play with a loss to Santa Cruz High, 78-59, on Tuesday, Feb. 8. Desmond Balco led Scotts Valley with a game-high 25 points. The Falcons finish the season with a 7-16 record overall and will prepare for the league tournament, scheduled to be announced after press time.
