Scotts Valley High’s baseball team could not withstand Aptos High’s first home run of the season — a grand slam — and fell to the Mariners, 16-6, on Tuesday, March 29.
Aptos’s Hunter Glaum slammed an opposite-field grand slam in the third inning, putting the Mariners up 5-1. Aptos finished the inning with two more runs and never looked back.
The first two innings saw the bases filled twice by the Falcons, but only one run was scored. Scotts Valley left-hander Jake Duncan took the loss.
The Falcons are 0-3 in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League and 3-6-1 overall.
Abraham Alvarez had a huge day for Scotts Valley, going 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and a run scored, but it was not enough to lift the Falcons past the overwhelming deficit the Glaum grand slam had left them in.
Aptos’ John Evans went 4-for-5 with a double, a stolen base, two RBIs and three runs scored. Nicco Bailey tripled and also added another solo home run for the Mariners, who are 1-1 in league and 4-3 overall.
The Falcons play at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, at St. Francis of Watsonville.
