The Lompico County Water District board of directors approved a $15 increase to the ready-to-serve charge at its meeting on June 22. The new ready-to-serve charge is $74.75 every two months. The new fee will be seen on the next round of billing.
The 500-customer district proposed the increase to help dig itself out of budget woes that have nearly sapped the district of all its reserves.
The board hopes to rebuild reserves in the case of an emergency in the canyon. Thirty-three letters protesting the rate hike were received by the district. Besides the rate increase, the board is continuing to look for ways to mitigate expenses while maintaining service.
