EDITOR,
No matter where our fire station is located, our firefighters will do the best job with what they have.
It’s not a firefighters issue or north versus south. It’s all about money and politics. This issue is sounding more like young children — “I want, I need” — when the fact is that we should be doing our best with what we have.
As a past fire commissioner in another county, I’m aware of the issues. Most annoying is what we don’t hear, like cost-cutting or consolidation. Consolidation could yield very large cost savings, but you won’t hear about it from your local officials because it means a reduction in management staff. Consolidation means sharing equipment, training expenses and manpower. This would save taxpayers money during these difficult financial times.
Grants cost taxpayers — they’re not free.
