Scotts Valley’s Nikki Owens fanned 14 batters and allowed the Cougars (1-3 in league, 8-11 overall) only three hits in seven innings in the Falcon’s 9-0 thumping of their cross-town rival.
The April 14 win at the Cougars home field improved the Falcons to 4-1 in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League action on April 14.
Danica Houseman and Nicole Whitney led the Falcons with three hits a piece and Houseman, who tripled, added four RBIs.
Owens and Jackie Eicholz both had two hits as Scotts Valley would finish the day with 12 hits.
SLV pitcher Kendra Salangsang threw five innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits and the Cougars committed three errors. Mariah Lindberg entered the game in the sixth inning and pitched the final two innings allowing one run on two hits.
