In a field of 25 schools Scotts Valley and San Lorenzo Valley high schools once again brought the heat in the distance events at the Bill Kearney Invitational Track meet on April 16 at Hartnell College.
SLV Freshman Anna Maxwell moved into the No. 1 freshman spot in the nation by running a personal best and Central Coast Section second best time for the season in the 1600 meters finishing in first place with a time of 4:57.20.
SLV sophomore Cody Johnson is the No. 2 frosh-soph 800-meter runner in the state after he won the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.98.
For Scotts Valley, frosh / soph runner Scott Edwards took second place in the 3200 meter run in 10:27.94
Falcon sophomore Vanessa Fraser finished the 1600 meters in a personal best in a time of 5:06.08 which earned her third place.
Claire MacMillan won the frosh / soph 1600 meters for the Cougars with a time of 5:22.49. Her teammate Abby Sherman is now ranked No. 12 in the state in the 800 meters at the freshman level after she took fourth overall in the 800 meters in 2:22.28.
The SLV girl’s 4-by-3200 meter relay team shattered the varsity school record by 40 seconds.
The team of Maxwell, (10:59.17), Sherman, (11:48.10), MacMillan, (11:53.38) and Emily Lamb, (12:28.19) combined for the school record of 47:09.24.
Both SLV and Scotts Valley compete next at the “Top 8” track meet at Los Gatos High School at 4 p.m. Friday, April 22.
