Consulting business opens in Scotts Valley
The Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce held a grand-opening ceremony on May 26 to celebrate Small Business Consulting, which opened its doors in the city. Owned by Terry Guy, the business is located at 5401 Scotts Valley Drive. For information: 600-8591.
Hospital accredited for cancer care
Dominican Hospital was granted a three-year accreditation for cancer care and research by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. The group evaluated Dominican’s oncology program and awarded it with the accreditation, recognizing its excellence.
“This important recognition by the ACS represents a major step forward in cancer care for the Santa Cruz community,” said Dr. Jay Meisel, the medical director of oncology for Dominican Hospital.
The commission sets standards for cancer care quality improvement, community outreach, research, clinical services, committee leadership and data management. There are more than 1,400 accredited programs in the United States and Puerto Rico, close to 25 percent of all hospitals.
Telework Center honored
Satellite Telework Centers received recognition for its environmental leadership by an environmentally focused nonprofit.
Palo Alto-based Acterra has awarded Satellite and its centers in Felton and Scotts Valley a Business Environmental Award for 2011.
Satellite was a runner-up in 2009 and re-applied for the award after opening its second telecommute office in Scotts Valley.
During the three-month judging process, nominees showcase their innovations in categories including sustainability, environmental enterprise, commute and transportation, pollution prevention and resource conservation.
Satellite was honored at the 2011 Business Environmental Awards Reception on Thursday, June 2, at the Crowne Plaza Cabana Hotel, 4290 El Camino Real, in Palo Alto.
Insurance agency earns designation
Scotts Valley’s United Valley Insurance, 104 Whispering Pines, Ste. 211, has been recognized as a Gold Key Agency by Encompass Insurance.
The Gold Key designation is the company’s recognition of superior performance. With the designation, United Valley qualifies for greater support, training and access to Web-based seminars led by industry experts.
The agency offers auto, homeowner and other insurance products through independent agents.
