Scotts Valley bocce heads to nationals
The Scotts Valley Bocce Club will compete in the 2011 United States Bocce National Championships from June 25 through July 2 at Campo di Bocce in Livermore and Los Gatos. Team members Dian May, Paul Chapin, Dave Imwalle and Tom Walsh will compete against teams from all over the country for the title of national champion.

Basketball Summer Camp
Former Bethany University basketball coach Dan Mooney will run a number of basketball camps at Monte Vista Christian School from June 13 to July 8. Camps are available for fifth-graders through seniors in high school. All the camps run from noon to 4 p.m. and cost $100.

Photographer publishes annual album
San Lorenzo Valley photographer Paul Firenzi has published a new photo album, titled “2010-2011 A Year in Sports,” on his website, www.mvp-photography.photoreflect.com. Firenzi shot photos at many San Lorenzo Valley and Scotts Valley high school sporting events throughout the school year. The photos are available for purchase on the site.
Bruins basketball recruits two
The Bethany University men’s basketball team has announced two new recruits for the 2011-2012 season. Matt Lincoln and Denzel Copeland will join the Bruins, who finished 2-25 in 2010.
Lincoln, a 6-foot, 2-inch guard from Phoenix, graduated from Horizon High and played his freshman year of college basketball at New Mexico University. He then played a year in Glendale, Ariz., before joining Bethany.
Denzel Copeland, a true freshman, will join the Bruins from Santa Theresa High in San Jose. The 5-10 point guard was ranked 30th in the nation and sixth in California in assists during his senior season at Santa Theresa. Copeland also made the Mount Hamilton All-League team for three years and helped lead the Saints to a 60-24 record in his three-year varsity tenure.
Fall Creek running team hits trail
Longtime San Lorenzo Valley track and cross country coach Rob Collins has started a running club for students in third through 12th grades at the SLV High track. The group will focus on improving endurance, building self esteem, and encouraging confidence through runs at the track and on the trails in Fall Creek State Park. Runners will meet from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.
