Peter Burke, the Press-Banner’s sports editor and general assignment reporter, will become editor effective Monday, July 20.
He succeeds Chuck Anderson, who is taking a position in Oregon.
Burke, 24, a journalism graduate of Whitworth University in Spokane, Wash., has been on the staff for two years.
“Peter is the natural choice,” General Manager Amanda Matthews said. “He’s smart, he knows our area and he’s one of the best journalists in the county. He writes knowledgeable, fair and balanced stories.”
Anderson, 64, has been named editor-publisher of the Wallowa County Chieftain, a 125-year-old weekly in Enterprise, Ore.
“The Press-Banner will be in good hands with Peter in the editor’s office,” Anderson said. “He has a good nose for news, and I’m confident he’ll build on what we already have accomplished.
“I’ve had a great ride, and I appreciate everyone I’ve worked with in our twin valleys,” he added. “My new job provides the opportunity to have overall responsibility for a publication, something for which I believe I’m ready.”
