A handful of local businesses are among the 63 in the county that earned kudos from the Santa Cruz County Friday Night Live Partnership for being against selling alcohol to minors.
The local businesses recognized as 2010 Responsible Alcohol Merchant Exemplary Award Winners are:
**Leo’s Scotts Valley Liquor Store
**Boulder Creek Liquors
**New Leaf Market (Felton and Boulder Creek)
**The Redwood Keg (Boulder Creek)
**Rite Aid (Felton)
**Safeway (Scotts Valley)
**Valero Corner Store (Scotts Valley)
**7-Eleven (Scotts Valley).
All participating merchants signed and will display a “Merchant Committed” pledge that shows their dedication to not provide alcohol to people younger than 21. It took a clean Alcohol and Beverage Control record, agreeing to display the pledge poster, and meeting the highest grading criteria by local Friday Night Live youth to be an exemplary merchant.
Local youth conducted interviews and on-site evaluations of merchants that agreed to participate. The merchants’ names were then submitted to law enforcement to determine their ABC record.
