Race Thru the Redwoods this weekend
Downtown Felton will be jam-packed with runners for several hours Sunday, Aug. 21, as the annual Race Thru the Redwoods comes to town. The race is sold out at 700 runners, and registration is closed. For the first time, there will be no race-day registration, because the popularity of the race has increased and there is limited space on the trails.
The children’s mile starts at 8:10 a.m. in Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, and the 10-kilometer race kicks off at 8:30 a.m. A pancake breakfast at Felton Fire Station will follow the race.

SV hoops player heads to college on scholarship
2011 Scotts Valley graduate Desmond Balco has earned a scholarship to play basketball for William Jessup University in Rocklin.
The 5-foot, 11-inch guard led the Falcons in scoring in 2010-11 and went on to play summer ball under Monte Vista Christian coach Dan Mooney, who talked with William Jessup’s coach about Balco’s play during Amateur Athletic Union tournaments.
“They came to a couple of my games, and I guess I impressed them,” Balco said.
Balco intends to major in business and will begin classes this fall.
