The search continues for a new fire chief for the Scotts Valley Fire Protection District after Chief Mike McMurry announced plans to step down this spring.
According to Scotts Valley Fire District Board Chairman Alan Smith, discussions began this summer to contract with Cooperative Personnel Services to begin the search for McMurry’s replacement. Currently, the board has set a tentative hire date of March 1, 2012.
Smith lauded the chief for his years of service to the city, saying that, in his years serving various fire districts, McMurry stands out for his professionalism and leadership.
“I’ve always found (McMurry) to be of the highest quality,” he said. “It will be hard to replace that quality.”
McMurry started at Scotts Valley in 1977 as a volunteer and worked his way up to chief, where he’s been since 1996.
