Scotts Valley has wrapped up their regular season and guaranteed themselves a spot in the 2011 Central Coast Section Division IV playoffs by beating St. Francis of Watsonville 55-14 at home.
The Saturday, Nov. 5 game saw Falcon running back Colin Corbella move into third place on the single-season all-time Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League rushing list with 177 yards and a touchdown.
Corbella, now with 1,714 yards and 14 touchdowns passed San Lorenzo Valley Kyle Todd who rushed for 1,683 yards in 2009. Corbella is 15 yards shy of Johnny Johnson who had 1,729 yards for Santa Cruz High School in 1985.
In the contest, sophomore receiver Joe Gillette caught two touchdown passes and teammate Kevin Bargetto caught one touchdown from quarterback Jack Pasquini who went 4-9 on the night with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Alex Benko scored on a 5-yard plunge.
All-state kicker Noah Beito drilled all seven of his extra points and field goals from 27 and 20 yards out.
On defense, linebacker Ryan Wortman returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown for the Falcons
“The team did really well,” said Head Coach Louie Walters. “It is always good to get everybody into the game this late in the season.”
Scotts Valley (5-1 SCCAL) wrapped up second place in league as Aptos remains undefeated at 5-0 and Santa Cruz (3-2) fell to Soquel (3-2 ). The top two teams in each league are afforded playoff berths in the CCS and the Falcons will represent the SCCAL in Division IV. Aptos plays Santa Cruz to close out the regular season Nov. 12.
Scotts Valley has a bye this week which will give them ample time to prepare for their first playoff game against an opponent which has yet to be determined.
