EDITOR,
April is National Child Sexual Abuse Awareness Month.
Last April, I began calling Peter, the editor of the Scotts Valley Press-Banner, asking him to do a piece for the sake of the children. I told him I was a citizen of Scotts Valley and a survivor. He never had the time.
In August, I called Peter again (since August begins with the same letter as April) and asked him again to do a piece on the subject. After he remembered who I was and the calls the previous April, Peter said why don’t I write a piece to the editor. He would be happy to print it. I am so sorry you didn’t have time for our children! We need to stop the silence now!
Why must it take the travesty of Penn State to make us wake up? You cannot bury your heads in the sand any longer. Wake up America, Scotts Valley: Sexual abuse against our young runs rampant, and why? Because we keep it in the closet. I am standing very tall at this moment. I will attempt to do as much as possible to bring awareness to this sad commentary of our society. Shame on you — any one of you who never told! Or didn’t believe!
