A 24-hour windstorm with gusts up to 60 miles per hour have caused branches and trees to fall all over Scotts Valley and the San Lorenzo Valley causing widespread power outages throughout the two valleys.
As of 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, Pacific Gas and Electric has reported more than 5,000 customers without electricity in Scotts Valley and between 500 and 4,999 in Boulder Creek, Ben Lomond and Felton.
Debris is strewn all over the roadways and current road closures include Alba Road at Empire Grade in Bonny Doon for a tree down; Empire Grade near Ice Cream Grade in Bonny Doon for trees and wires down; Felton Empire Road at mile marker 1.3 closed for a tree down; Glen Arbor Road at the Bridge in Ben Lomond for a tree in the wires; Jamison Creek Road at Empire Grade in Bonny Doon for a tree down; Lompico Road at mile marker 2.12 for a tree and wires down; Scenic Way at Highway 9 in Felton for a tree down with wires and Smith Grade in Bonny Doon for trees down.
County and PG&E crews are working to restore access and power.
In Boulder Creek, many homes have been without power since Wednesday morning, residents reported.
In Scotts Valley, a large Ponderosa pine tree fell on a home on Lockewood Lane. Another fell on two vehicles and a neighboring swimming pool in Kentwood Court. A large tree also fell in front of the Baymonte Preschool on Scotts Valley Drive.
Of note, Pure Valley Water, 224-A Mt. Hermon Road in Scotts Valley has a generator and is able to provide clean drinking water to those in need.
