EDITOR,
Kindergarten through 12th grade schooling is paid for with the taxes collected by the state. It should not be subsidized by individual cities or counties. Scotts Valley residents do not need to burden their homes with a parcel tax. This is a state government problem and needs to be resolved there.
If they need more funding, they need to go to the state for it. If you look at Santa Cruz, you will see that parcel taxes don’t solve the problems. This form of taxation frees the state to make further cuts in its responsibility to pay for its mandated programs.
I personally feel that the state should provide adequate financial support for K-12 schooling. If you want preschool or college, that should be your own financial responsibility.
