San Lorenzo Valley Rotary Club
The club had a work day at the Felton Community Hall on Feb. 8, and its annual speech contest was Wednesday, Feb. 22, at SLV High School. The winner will advance to the Area 7 speech contest at the Sunrise Rotary Club on March 6.
The club will have a food drive to benefit Valley Churches United Missions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 24 at New Leaf Market in Boulder Creek, 13159 Highway 9.
The club also will have a surprise guest March 7. Randall Brown, author of “The San Lorenzo Valley Water District” will speak on March 14; a surprise guest will speak March 21; and Mary Andersen of the SLV Chamber of Commerce will visit March 28.
The club meets at 7:15 a.m. Wednesdays in the Birch Dining Room on Conference Drive at the Mount Hermon Conference Center. Cost is $10.
Exchange Club of Scotts Valley
Exchange is working on the annual Search For Talent, which will be April 14 at the Olivet University Theater. The club is looking for contestants to sign up. Cash prizes will be awarded, and contestants have a chance to go on to a national competition. The event is open to the public. Call Misha Ifland at 479-925-0966 to sign up.
The club is also ramping up for the police and fireman of the year awards event.
The club meets at noon on the second Wednesday of the month at Mint, 4652 Scotts Valley Drive, and the club social is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month at the Scotts Valley Library. The public is encouraged to attend. Appetizers and drinks are provided.

Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley
Kiwanis is actively organizing for Music at SkyPark 2012. Band Selection has taken place, and sponsorships, which are expected to go quickly, are available.
Kiwanis is also preparing to host a Cinco de Mayo Fest to support the many charities to which it contributes, including Valley Churches United Missions, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, Youth Leadership programs and scholarships. The event will cost $25 ($12 for those 12 and younger) and includes a Mexican dinner from Los Gallos games and salsa dancing with instructions.
Kiwanis has an evening meeting on the second Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m., which costs $5  plus menu selection.  Kiwanis meets other Wednesdays at 7 a.m. All meetings are at Bruno’s BBQ, 230 Mount Hermon Road, Ste. G, and costs $5.

Scotts Valley Host Lions
The club hosted a mixer with the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce at Mint, in which the Lions showcased their activities
Fire Chief Mike McMurray updated the club on the latest news from the fire department and talked about his retirement plans. The club inducted its newest member, Bill Smallman, of Felton, to the organization.
The club continues to serve lunches twice a month at the senior center and is planning its annual Crab Cioppino Feed on March 3. The Billy Martini Band will provide music and dancing after the dinner. Tickets are $45.

Scotts Valley Rotary
The club plans to repeat last year’s ’50’s Summer Nights Gala this spring. The club also plans to augment its work with a hospital and schools in Guatemala by organizing a health fair, in which club members will test students and provide them with eyeglasses if needed. The club thanks the Lions Club for helping implement this project. 
The Rotary student speech contest will be in March. Winners of the local contest can go on to the district level competition, where they can win up to $1,000.
The club recognizes Karen Shea and Sheryl Ainsworth for raising more than $1,000 to help eradicate polio by making and selling homemade candy and valentines.
The club meets at 12:15 p.m. every Monday at the Scotts Valley Hilton.
