A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Friday, March 1, in Boulder Creek for Isabel Escamilla, who died Feb. 24 in Santa Cruz following a lengthy illness. She was 71 years old.
Born in Merced as one of seven children, Mrs. Escamilla moved to Boulder Creek in 1962 with her husband and raised her family there. She was an active parishioner of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Boulder Creek and served on the altar society. Her three sons also volunteered as altar servers at St. Michaels’s.
Mrs. Escamilla operated Escamilla Day Care Center in Boulder Creek, known as “Miss Mia” to her students and their parents. Her career spanned more than 30 years as a day care provider.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Javier Escamilla of Castroville; sons, Carlos, Juan and Roberto Escamilla; daughters, Rebecca Escamilla and Dora Ortega; sister, Dora Faulkerson; brother, Charles Gonzalez; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Luis, Gilbert and Manuel Gonzales; a sister, Carmen Garcia; and a grandson.
Friday’s Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. St. Michael’s Church, 13005 Pine St., in Boulder Creek. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at the church. A guest book is online at www.pacificgardenschapel.com.
