EDITOR,
Bruce McPherson put campaign needs over integrity at a recent candidate’s forum. When facing a largely lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender audience, he was asked, “What have you done to support LGBT people?” He touted support for two LGBT bills as a state senator.
The truth is, during his last two years in the state senate, McPherson voted against nine pieces of LGBT legislation, offering benefits to same-gender partners, preventing bullying in schools, supporting marriage equality and nondiscrimination law. And there are many more equality bills he voted against prior to this. You just can’t vote dozens of times to hurt a large segment of your constituency and then claim two support votes make you their ally. It would have been far more ingenuous if McPherson had been honest. Offering such misleading information makes me suspect of McPherson’s intentions with the LGBT community and his entire campaign for supervisor.
