Locals find podium of Santa Cruz Half Marathon and 10K
Adam Marriott, 33, of Scotts Valley won the 10-kilometer portion of the event with a time of 34 minutes, 11 seconds. Marriott held an impressive 5:30 mile pace en route to the April 1 victory.
Ben Lomond resident and SLV alumnus Nick Sherrell posted the fastest time in the 19-and-under age group. The 18-year-old finished the half marathon in 1:24:21. He galloped at a 6:26 mile pace over the 13.1 mile course along Santa Cruz’s coast. Sherrell finished 21st overall. 2,442 women and 1,371 men competed in the race.
D.A.R.E. golf tournament takes entries
The 15th annual D.A.R.E Golf Tournament is taking entries and sponsors for the golf challenge scheduled for May 18 at Valley Gardens Golf Course in Scotts Valley.
The event is sponsored by the Scotts Valley Peace Officers Association to raise money for the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program that teaches fifth grade students to make smart life choices.
Proceeds support Red Ribbon Week and the Junior Police Academy.
Entry Fees are $60 per player with $5 mulligans.
Raffle and prize donations are also accepted.

Adult basketball league in full swing
Eighteen teams in three divisions are competing for honors as part of the Mount Hermon Adult Recreational basketball league.
In Division I, Roberts Army leads with a 3-0 record while team while Alterra Environmental heads up Division II at 3-0 and SLV Hoopsters, Wreckless and Barons Boys are tied atop Division III at 2-1.
