EDITOR,
I lost my mother to Alzheimer’s disease and kept her at home with the assistance of hired caregivers.
The total cost over the last three years of her life was $300,000. And my husband and I still ran out of money. We sold our home to continue her care.
Many families face this every day. Most costs for care are mainly private pay. So what happens when we run out of money?
To date, there is no health insurance reimbursement and no long-term care support.
This is the reason why I’ve become an advocate.
I’m traveling to Washington, D.C., for Alzheimer’s Advocacy Forum Day on April 25 to meet with our Congressional legislators and urge them to pass the bill to allocate funds for long-term care to those with Alzheimer’s.
Help me. Voice your concerns. Contact both your government and state legislators.
