Editor’s Notes: Raving about the Faves

In this issue of the Press-Banner, you will find the third annual Valley Faves and Raves special section.
Each year the vote totals have grown, and this year hundreds of ballots came in from all over the area.
We launched this section in summer 2007 to highlight local businesses, attractions and services in the San Lorenzo Valley and Scotts Valley.
That’s not the only reason we started it. It helps our bottom line to sell advertising, and more importantly — at least in my opinion — it satisfies our curiosity.
Who serves the best sushi? Where can I find a quality but mildly used dining room table? Where should I go for my next chai?
These questions and more can be answered with a brief examination of this section. We’ve painstakingly included addresses, phone numbers and Web site information for each Fave and Rave — and for each Fave, a description of something that makes them the favorite.
I encourage you to pull out this section, post it on your refrigerator with a magnet and circle a few new places you’ve never been before. Then, when you have some free time or plan to go out for a meal, rely on what your neighbors have recommended and check out a Fave or Rave.
What I like most about the Valley Faves and Raves is that it builds up our community and highlights our local economy. There are other “best of’s” from weekly newspapers in Santa Cruz, but it’s only the rare occasion that something in Scotts Valley or SLV comes away with a win in one of those categories. What that means to me is that the larger population of people in Santa Cruz vote for what’s closest to them.
The Press-Banner Faves and Raves excludes Santa Cruz businesses and attractions and specifically hones in on the goods, services and fun things to do that we in Scotts Valley and the San Lorenzo Valley enjoy daily.
Congratulations to all the Faves and Raves, and thanks to everyone who participated in the selection process. And keep heart if your Fave didn’t end up at the top — we’ll do this again next year.
