Backyard burn season extinguished for summer

As of today, backyard burn season is officially closed for the summer.  
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and the Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District have declared the end of backyard burning in Santa Cruz County including Scotts Valley and the San Lorenzo Valley.
As of May 1, burning, with the exception of campfires requires a special permit. Hazard-reduction burn piles will be allowed with a Hazard Reduction Permit from the Air Pollution Control District.
The backyard burn season is scheduled to re-open November 30 depending on the weather. 
Guidelines for burning small debris piles are posted at www.santacruzcountyfire.com. Failing to follow the burn regulations can result in citation and liability for the cost of suppressing the fire.
