EDITOR,
Bruce McPherson is the candidate that I will endorse for 5th District supervisor to replace our Supervisor Mark Stone, who has so well represented us in our district.
When the voting boundaries changed, Bruce thought deeply about how his experience that he gained at state and federal levels could help his home base here in Santa Cruz County.
His experience is worth its weight in gold during these depressive economic times.
In my mind, it’s not about the party, it’s about the person and their record of what they have practiced, not just preached.
I first met Bruce in 1985 when he was the editor of the Santa Cruz Sentinel and I was the Homeless Task Force chair person appointed by the board of supervisors.
As he moved into the political arena, I had many situations and occasions to call upon him for advice.
His ability to work with his counterparts in a bipartisan way speaks loudly of his character. His recent lobbying with our own Fred Keeley, who came back home to Santa Cruz, helped acquire the Coast Dairies property and protect the land.
We need a supervisor who has, in addition to his love of the environment, the sense to strongly support our law enforcement, public safety and fire departments to protect not only the environment but also the human beings who live in it.
Bruce McPherson has been given the gift to listen, weigh the situations and take action to improve them.
I also have close associations with many of the other candidates that have run and are running in this race, and I have high respect for all of them.
