The California Department of Parks and Recreation plans to ignite a 5-acre prescribed burn near the observation platform at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park this week.
The actual date of the burn will depend on weather conditions that are favorable for smoke dispersal and control of the fire.
This burn is being conducted to reduce the threat of a catastrophic wildfire and to maintain the Sandhills habitat in the park.
