Runners qualify for CCS
Several track athletes from San Lorenzo Valley High School qualified for the Central Coast Section meet on Saturday, May 19, with at-large marks at the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League finals May 5.
Matt Phillips qualified in shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 8 inches; Claire MacMillan qualified in the 1,600 meters in 5 minutes, 13.07 seconds; and Abby Sherman qualified in the 800 meters in 2:18.96.
SLV alum in Rams camp
San Lorenzo Valley High School alumnus Nick Johnson was among 23 rookie free agents signed by the St. Louis Rams following the NFL Draft.
Johnson, a 2007 SLV graduate who attended Cabrillo College before transferring to Henderson State, is a wide receiver. He is participating in Rams preseason minicamps in Missouri.
Pop Warner sign-ups
The San Lorenzo Valley Cougars Pop Warner Football and Cheer teams are now accepting registration for the upcoming season.
Children ages 5 to 15 can play. Football is $150 and includes equipment. Cheerleading is $75. Multiple sibling discounts are available.
The league will have a registration table at the Boulder Creek Elementary School carnival on 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 19, and at the SLV Chili Cook off at Felton Covered Bridge Park from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 20.
Volunteer positions for fundraising and coaching are still available.

Senior bocce sign ups
Those older than 50 may register now for weekly bocce games in the morning, played from June 19 to Aug. 25 at the Skypark Bocce Courts. The Michael J. Russell Memorial Golf Tournament will be today at 1 p.m. at Seascape Golf Club, in Aptos.
