The San Lorenzo Valley High School baseball and softball teams each won first round games in the Central Coast Section playoffs on Wednesday, May 16 to advance.
The Cougars baseball team defeated Stevenson High School 7-2 behind a strong outing from starting pitcher Scott Petroskey and a 7-run third inning. The team next plays Menlo School at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 19 in Atherton.
Menlo is 20-7 on the season and SLV is 15-7.
The Cougar softball team defeated Notre Dame San Jose 7-2, also, on Wednesday. The Cougars play league rival Soquel High School at noon on Saturday, May 19 at the Salinas Sports Complex.
The Scotts Valley baseball team fell to Monterey High School 6-5. After falling behind 5-0, the team’s valiant comeback fell just short. Their season is finished with a 12-13 record overall.
