Water district appoints new director, celebrates veteran
Following the resignation of Jim Nelson after 12 years of service, the San Lorenzo Valley Water District Board of Directors appointed Margaret Bruce as his successor during a July 5 meeting.
Bruce, an 18-year Boulder Creek resident, is a former vice president of Ecology Action in Santa Cruz and has 20 years of professional experience in environmental program management and planning. She has served on the San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Board, on the advisory board of Joint Venture Monterey Bay and Sustainable Monterey Bay, and as co-founder and board member of Sustainable Silicon Valley.
She has also served on the San Lorenzo Valley Water District’s Education Advisory Commission since 2005.
She will complete Nelson’s term, which ends in December, and plans to run for re-election, according to the district.
Nelson was elected to the board three times. During his tenure, the district acquired the Felton water system from California-American Water in 2008, acquired the Malosky Creek property and initiated its Education Grant Program.
A reception to honor Nelson will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 26, in the district board room, 13067 Highway 9, in Boulder Creek.
