EDITOR,
Bruce McPherson has recently dropped his long affiliation with the Republican Party. But he cannot change his record.
In his last year in elected office, Mr. McPherson received a rating of 6 out of 100 on environmental issues from the California League of Conservation Voters (the average rating for Democratic senators was 87); on issues related to workers and their families, he received a rating of 12 out of 100 from the California Federation of Labor (the Democratic average being 88); and on LGBT issues, he received a rating of 20 out of 100 from Equality California (the Democratic average was 92). More recently, Mr. McPherson played a very active role in the highly partisan and unpleasant campaign against John Laird for state Senate in 2010. This information can easily be confirmed on reputable websites.
The values expressed in this record are not ones I want in my next 5th District supervisor. I will vote for Eric Hammer as a true environmental leader who values both labor and diverse lifestyles.
