Volunteers sought as docents
Seymour Marine Discovery Center at Long Marine Lab in Santa Cruz seeks volunteer docents.
A docent training class will meet Wednesdays and Saturdays from Jan. 9 to March 23.
Docents will lead tours to the marine mammal overlook at the center, help visitors handle seawater animals safely and interpret exhibits and aquariums.

Memoir workshop opens to registrants
A six-session memoir writing workshop will begin in January in Boulder Creek by the Boulder Creek Chapter of Friends of the Santa Cruz Libraries.
The workshop will be from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Jan. 10 and 24, Feb. 14 and 28, and March 14 and 28 at Boulder Creek Branch Library, 13390 W. Park Ave.
Each session will focus on weaving personal histories with the craft of writing, led by Gail Burk of the Santa Cruz Genealogical Society.
The workshop is free of charge and limited to 12 people. Registration begins Saturday, Dec. 1.

Wedding appointments available for 12-12-12
The Santa Cruz County Clerk’s office will offer a full day of wedding ceremonies on Dec. 12, 2012.
Based on requests from couples who want to make their wedding day Dec. 12, 2012, the clerk’s office will offer ceremonies every half-hour from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day, a Wednesday. More appointments will be arranged if needed.
The cost of the wedding ceremony is $100. Each couple will receive a special souvenir marriage certificate.
To marry, a couple must have a valid marriage license before the scheduled ceremony and have at least one witness present.
Marriage licenses cost $90 and are issued by the county clerk. To obtain a marriage license, the bride and groom must appear in person with valid identification, complete a form providing personal information and take an oath.

Free workshop for job seekers
Gateway Bible Church will host the first Hirewire job-seeker workshop of 2013 from 6 to 7 p.m. Jan. 8.
Hirewire is a free workshop that connects people searching for work, employers and recruiters.
Each hourlong interactive workshop covers résumés, searches and social media. The last 15 minutes are reserved for an open question-and-answer session.
