Scotts Valley High Freshman Mikaela Inman (right) scores the first goal of a Tuesday, Jan. 8 game against rival San Lorenzo Valley High off an assist from Emmy Koflanovich during Scotts Valley's 3-0 league win.

Strong passing led to good shots and a 3-0 victory for the Scotts Valley High School girls soccer team against San Lorenzo Valley High on Tuesday, Jan. 8.
Falcons coach Art Munoz said the offense operated as a unit in the win.
“I liked that we were stringing passes together and following up on shots,” said Head Coach Art Munoz. “We were also strong on the ball.”
For Scotts Valley (3-4-3 overall, 1-0-1 Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League), freshman Mikaela Inman, junior Nicole LaPorte and freshman Desiree Rakela scored, while goalkeepers Emily Johnson, a senior, and junior Claire Covert shared the shutout.
Inman scored in the 24th minute against San Lorenzo Valley (1-2 SCCAL) after she took a pass from fellow freshman Emmy Koflanovich.
After a shot by senior Jessica DuBridge was deflected in the 33rd minute, LaPorte fired the miss into the back of the net to make the score 2-0 at halftime.
In the second half, the Falcons capitalized again when Inman found Rakela, a defender, who fired a shot from 30 yards out into the upper portion of the net.
While the Falcons’ offense clicked, the defense limited the Cougars to one shot on net the entire game.
“We’re still working on a lot of stuff,” Munoz said. “We changed the front line and moved girls around because of injury.”
He added that his team needs to focus on each game to have a successful season.
“It’s going to be a tough battle,” Munoz said. “No team is easy in this league.”
The Falcons faced a tough Santa Cruz High School team after press time Thursday, Jan. 10, and travel to Soquel High School at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15.
SLV will face Santa Cruz at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Depot Field in Santa Cruz.
