SLV boys hoops tops St. Francis
Billy Mullins scored 21 points, including five 3-pointers, and the San Lorenzo Valley boys basketball team topped St. Francis 56-39 on Tuesday, Jan. 22.
Trevor Patterson added 14 points and Mullins had seven steals to lead the Cougars, who improved to 3-4 in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League and 8-11 overall.
They play next at Harbor High School on Friday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m.
Pony tryouts begin
Santa Cruz Pony league tryouts are Saturday, Jan. 26, and Feb. 2 at Branciforte Middle School, 315 Poplar Ave., in Santa Cruz.
The tryout will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for youth ages 13 to 14 who have competed Little League in San Lorenzo Valley, Scotts Valley and Santa Cruz.
Players are welcome to register and try out both dates.

Girl wrestlers show well at invite
Domino Parrish, wrestling at 114 pounds, won first place at the Terra Nova Lady Tiger Invitational at Terra Nova High School on Saturday, Jan. 19.
Alicia Pitts (108 pounds) and Shelby Baker (122) pounds each took third.
The Falcons team then traveled to Aptos High School on Tuesday, Jan. 22, and fell to the Mariners, 64-15. Michael Sandoval (126 pounds), Frankie Graves (170 pounds) and Baldan Dashiev (182 pounds) all had wins for the Falcons.
Girls soccer tops sharks
The Scotts Valley High School girls soccer team shut out St. Francis 3-0 in Watsonville on Tuesday, Jan. 22.
Emmy Koflanovich scored twice and Melinda Lane scored once in the win.
The Falcons improved to 3-1-2 in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play on the season.
They played Harbor High School after press time Thursday, Jan. 24, and are scheduled to play SLV at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31.
