Future of UC system discussed
Assemblyman Mark Stone, D-Monterey Bay, met with legislators and University of California President Mark Yudof at the first meeting of the bipartisan UC Legislative Roundtable on Jan. 14 to discuss the role of higher education in California.
Participants discussed the impact of Gov. Jerry Brown’s 2013-14 budget on the university system, tuition, nonresident enrollment, student debt, faculty and staff compensation, e-learning, UC medical schools and support for low-income and undocumented students.
Stone emphasized how the university can help the state.
“The University of California provides research and learning opportunities that are essential components for hastening our state’s slow economic recovery,” Stone stated in a release.
The roundtable is expected to meet several times during the next year.
