The Scotts Valley girls wrestling team defeated all comers and won the first Central Coast Section wrestling title in school history.
Scotts Valley’s only other CCS title was won by the girl’s soccer team in 2008.
The wrestling team coached by Jared Norman, Ken Kannegaard and Mike Parrish finished with 109 points, far outpacing second place Terra Nova High School (84 points) and third place Overfelt High (82.5 points) during the two-day CCS tournament Friday, Feb. 1, and Saturday, Feb. 2, at Oak Grove High School in San Jose.
Four of the six Scotts Valley girls qualified for the California Interscholastic Federation Girls State Championship that will take place Feb. 22 and 23 in Lemoore.
For the Falcons, Addy Johnson wrestling at 103 pounds finished with a 2-3 record and finished sixth; Alicia Pitts (108 pounds) went 4-1 to finish second; Domino Parrish (114 pounds) took second with a 3-1 record; Shelby Baker (122 pounds) took third with a 3-1 record; Abigael Lopez-Gay (126 pounds) finished third; and Katherine Rossiter (146 pounds) took fifth.
Pitts, Parrish, Baker and Lopez-Gay all qualified for the state championship by finishing in the top three in the tournament.
